The latest in personal armour technology, only a dozen or so actually exist. War is an unthinkable use for these suits, as they are designed for phenomena interception. Instead of using steel, the suit uses triple layered plate. The first and third layer are made from bluemetal (which dramatically increases cost), while the middle layer is one millimetre of lead for NBC protection. The entire suit is coated in a chemical resistant paint. Its characteristics are as follows:
- The head has level III protection in the skull and jaw areas. It is fit with a microphone and headset for the radio. Eye protection consists of a removable 2cm plate of polycarbonate, slightly tinted red from inner market materials. Features a respirator entrance that can be opened at will for better breathing. Inner walls feature a few thin layers of rubber to counter NBC threats.
- Arm protection consists of level III armour, with some unarmoured parts. In-built radio transceiver based in the AN/PRC-6, located in the right trapezius muscle.
- Torso features extensive level III armour, with vital organs reaching level IV. Multiple pouches for utilities and munitions. Abdomen features a heavy duty box respirator able to protect from high concentrations of all known chemical weapons, and even from heavily irradiated environments. As a side effect the large respirator increases abdomen protection.
- Legs and groin feature well placed level III armour, allowing for better mobility.
- Combat boots feature partial level II armour and interior rubber layer.
A skin-tight rubber NBC suit is usually wore below the AIS suit.
The AIS severely limits an infantryman's ability to fight for long periods due to increased sweating, increased hunger, increased need of hydration and low carrying capacity of things other than ammunition. This is an acceptable setback, as the AIS is designed for short and brutal interceptions.
