The invention of copperworking, and later (around 1,200 BCE) bronzeworking, caused a drastic shift in Aboriginal society. Large agricultural civilisations flourished all around the country, most notably in the Murray-Darling basin area where the First Empire appeared. This particular spot of land is fertile and has ample irrigation, with its titular Murray rivalling the Ganges in water discharge. Multiple kingdoms rose and fell throughout the continent. Society in the ancient age was characterised by a coexistence between hunter-gatherer traditions and novel agricultural practices, a hybrid culture which has maintained itself over millennia. It was during this era that The Imperial Cenotaph, The World's End Beacon and The Obelisk were built. Thanks to the continuous development of technology, the growth of city-states and explosive population growth, Oceanyka found itself in the Civilised Age shortly after the end of its own neolithic revolution.
