Cutting down bolt action rifles to the size of a pistol is an art as ancient as bolt action rifles themselves. Optimised for use by partisan forces and criminals, Obrez pistols are rough, have unbelievable recoil, and cannot hit anything beyond 50 metres, but they are very compact for their calibre. Most of these pistols are made from Mosin-Nagant M1891 rifles, due to their ubiquity.

Mosinka - Mosin-Nagant UA
The Mosin-Nagant was the standard combat rifle of the Imperial Russian Army, and following the October Revolution, of the Red Army. While not outstanding in any single metric, the Mosin-Nagant is undeniably rugged and can withstand the worst of conditions, particularly freezing colds.
