The Type 97 was developed in response to reports of China's and the Soviet Union's pre-war tank performance. Due to the extremely fast development of armoured vehicles, the weapon was quickly left obsolete, but found a niche as a long-range infantry support weapon, due to its remarkable precision. However, at 55kg, it is also extremely heavy for a rifle. In modern Oceanyka, it is mostly used in static defensive emplacements, or against extremely long range targets.
