Tupolev Tu-22M

The Tupolev Tu-22's problems did not go unnoticed. As a result, the Tupolev design bureau proposed an entirely new design which would share its name with its predecessor for political reasons; the Tu-22M. This supersonic swept-wing bomber could carry twice the payload, over a greater distance, was much more controllable and far more reliable. Only prototypes of this to-be-legendary aircraft have been observed.
