The Austen is an Oceanykan submachinegun. It is an amalgamation of the British Sten Gun and the German MP40, produced entirely locally. It has its origins in the various emergency industrial committees called forwards by the Oceanykan Council when World War 2 broke out and the country was unable to acquire weapons for its civil war. The Austen was designed and put in production in less than 4 months; it armed officers, NCOs and shock troops throughout the second half of said conflict, but federal production ceased in 1946 as weapon imports became available once more, and the Owen Gun proved to be far more reliable. Some gunsmiths still make Austen model SMGs for sale.
