The weapon is semi-automatic and appears to be locked on-manufacture in a "low" power mode, which is still capable of tearing limbs off large creatures in a single shot. It seems to use electromagnets, powered by a Precursor MF Cell, to launch charged compressed air at a target, functionally a high-energy particle beam. Technically, this makes the particle carbine a type of air gun. Very few have ever been found in various stages of decay and disrepair, though the FSRD possesses one functional copy, which used to belong to the Son of Aster and was kept hidden in his estate.
