Against superior forces, or in extremely rough terrain, light and fast-moving groups of irregular fighters are king; be they guerillas or special forces, these units will deny a mechanised or conventional enemy of any advantage and bleed them out, slowly, until victory. Irregular warfare requires a greater degree of political will and troop morale than other types because of its under-reliance on modern military equipment, as well as capable and adaptable leaders. As demonstrated by the infamous Vietnamese fighting NATO coalition troops, irregular warfare is as effective, and in many situations much more so, than European-style manoeuvre warfare. This is the primary mode of fighting in Oceanyka due to its decentralised nature, and forms the backbone of the Federation's national security strategy.
