The ZiS-2 was the Soviet Union's "medium" anti-tank weapon during the Great Patriotic War, alongside the ZiS-3 divisional gun, though this design was created for and not forced into the role. It was comparable in performance to the British 6-pounder, though it did not enjoy the luxury of using APDS shells; as total destruction of the tank and its crew were priority, these weapons almost always used APHE (armour-piercing, high-explosive) shells. Though incapable of damaging modern MBTs from a frontal shot, many lighter vehicles still use this weapon throughout the world.
