The heaviest piece of anti-air artillery available to the Germans was the 12.8cm FlaK 40. This beast of a gun was designed with one purpose; to target and destroy bomber formations above key industrial or administrative centres such as Berlin or the Ruhr. In this purpose it was very successful, especially when paired with cutting-edge radar guidance. The FlaK 40 is still a popular weapon in naval warships, due to its dual-purpose capabilities.
