120mm Gun M1

America's heaviest anti-air weapon during WW2 was the 120mm Gun M1. Capable of reaching the highest-flying bomber formations, for which it earned the nickname stratosphere gun, it was a formidable weapon, though it was never used in its intended role because of America's late-war dominance of the skies above both Europe and Asia. SAM systems eventually replaced its intended role, and the weapon entered the second-hand market.
