The Republic of Rhodesia is a small country located just north of South Africa. During the First Colonial War it was a major base of operations for the Imperial African Army, and one of the very few regions that did not succumb to the German war machine. Unlike other British colonies, Rhodesia housed a large white population which filled many skilled managerial and administrative positions, as well as numerous trades. As such, it was able to resist the wave of "majority-rule decolonisation" which had swept over Africa over the late 1950s and early 1960s, much like its southern neighbour (its largest trade partner and only ally). Previously friendly with the West, continued Mittelafrika encroachment and the rise of a strong Civil Rights Movement in the USA have left the Apartheid regimes largely isolated. Today, Rhodesia is led by the young President Ian Smith, a very popular figure amongst Rhodesia's whites. His administration has been mostly preoccupied with finding victory in the Rhodesian Bush War against native rule militants such as Robert Mugabe.
