The Republic of Ireland is an island nation located within the British Isles, just west of Great Britain. It is led by Taoiseach Seán Lemass, their equivalent of a Prime Minister. Ireland was born again in 1916 Easter uprising, which though suppressed, resurfaced three years later against a debilitated and demoralised London. Despite grueling guerilla warfare against Northern Ireland's protestant insurgents, the Republic came out victorious. Since achieving independence, Ireland has maintained a strong policy of neutrality. However, this does not mean it is uninvolved in the world's affairs.
