The Winchester Model 70 is an American bolt-action rifle designed for the civilian market. Over its three decades of production it has gained a reputation for reliability and ruggedness, earning it the moniker "Rifleman's Rifle". The Model 70 has been produced in most intermediate, large and even magnum calibres; .223, 7.62mm, .303, .308, .458, 8mm, 9mm, etc. During the mid-1960s the Winchester Repeating Arms Company made a series of production decisions which lowered the Model 70's quality substantially, making pre-redesign rifles more soar in value.
