The Department of Security is a federal ministerial department with the following missions;

  • Uphold and protect the Oceanykan Constitution across an entire continent, detaining those who breach it.
  • Punish transgressors of the Constitution through humane imprisonment.
  • Detain, transport and present before the High Court those who are suspect of crimes against the Federation or crimes against humanity.

For these missions the Department of Security has numerous forces at its disposal under the authority of the Federal Police, and also manages the nation's Federal Correctional Service. Its head is the Minister of Security, aided in their missions primarily by the Director of the Federal Police and the Director of the Federal Correctional Service.

Perhaps no other ministry has gained as much influence and importance as the Department of Security over the last years. The Oceanykan People's Party New Theory of State relies on the formation of effective national institutions, on the rule of law, and nation-building. For these tasks, it's muscle has definitely been no other than the Federal Police. It brings the law to polities and regions which had previously ignored it on a basis of convenience. However, even with its current support, the Federal Police's reach is only 4% of the Oceanykan Federation's territory, made up of major urban centres.

Another important component of the Department of Security is its control over the nation's prison labour facilities. This is because the Federation's minimal taxes cannot cover all of its expenses, and thus it requires an additional source of income. However, it does not have any power over the judicial system, which is controlled by the High Court and its subordinate regional courthouses.
