The Federation’s Fighting Force

The Armed Forces of the Oceanykan Federation are an armed institution tasked with defending the sovereignty of Oceanyka from foreign invasion. They are an evolution of the pre-Revolution Federal Army, and were created in their current form by the Constitutional Reform Act of 1962. Its head is the Chief of Defence, which is hand-picked by the Oceanykan Council from one of the Oceanykan People's Army generals or the Red Navy's admirals. They are then free to organise the Joint General Staff as they see fit, though the Field Marshal of the Oceanykan People's Army and the Fleet Admiral of the Red Navy are elected from amongst their peers. All forces belonging to the AFOF are subordinate to the President of the Oceanykan Federation, who holds supreme executive authority, but cannot intervene in their internal organisation. These institutions follow a simple hierarchy:

  • President of the Oceanykan Federation
    • Chief of Defence
      • Deputy Chief of the General Staff
        • Joint General Staff of the AFOF
      • Field Marshal of the Oceanykan People's Army

• 9 Marine Commando Regiment

Experts at irregular warfare, boarding actions, airmobile insertion and amphibious assault. Bested by no other unit in the Armed Forces.

These 16 ground divisions, air divisions and fleets compose the professional volunteer force of the Armed Forces of the Oceanykan Federation in the late 1960s. However, OPA units usually operate in coordination with local allies of the Council such as militia groups, warlord armies or contracted mercenaries, bolstering their numbers with more “replaceable” troops. They are equipped with a mixture of Soviet, British and American equipment, in many occasions reverse-engineered and produced locally or rechambered.

Furthermore, the Oceanykan Peoples’ Army Reserve Force can mobilise about 65 combat divisions in four weeks from the Council’s major factions, with varying degrees of quality and motorisation. Under an enactment of Article 5 of the Oceanykan Constitution, and a state of Total War, the nation’s petroleum reserves, industrial capacity and economy can, at most, sustain about 376 combat divisions. Though not part of the OPA command structure or logistics system, it may be aided by the following divisions; from a secret federal organisation, from the Federal Enforcement Unit and 19 from the Federal Police.
