The High Court of the Oceanykan Federation is an autonomous judicial body with the following missions:

  • Oversee the nation's judicial system through its own actions and that of its subordinate regional courthouses.
  • Provide the final say on any constitutional dispute or crisis, thus creating precedent.
  • Enact judgement upon persons, institutions, corporations or states in breach of the Constitution.

Its head is the Chief Justice of the High Court, the most senior of the seven Justices.

Foreign lawyers within Oceanyka's borders face a bleak future, as most of the continent is governed by ancient legal codes and archaic customs, with one exception; the High Court, which acts as the nation's supreme judicial authority. Its heads, the seven Justices, are chosen from amongst the University of Cestlep's senior jurists or from judges working within the High Court's own regional courthouses. Only in extreme circumstances will the High Court enact judgement itself, when a person or institution finds themselves accused of either Crimes against the Federation or Crimes against Humanity. In every other criminal case, it will be one of Oceanyka's 142 regional courthouses which will dictate whether the accused is innocent or guilty and, in the latter case, whether they will pay a fine or serve a prison sentence.

The Oceanykan Constitution allows capital punishment, which may only be handed out by the High Court itself under extreme circumstances. However, in respecting the principle of fair resolution and the spirit of personal liberty, the damned will be allowed to fight back against their executor in a melee duel, which will take place at the semicircular marble stairs leading up to the High Court's building in central Cestlep.
