The "bora" is an initiation ceremony for Aboriginal boys to go into manhood. It usually involves dancing and scarification, but in some regions it may include circumcision, penile subincision, the removal of a tooth or some other form of bodily mutilation. Women, children and anyone who does not belong to the family or tribe may not view it.
Elders are tasked with passing on religious and mystical knowledge, songs and folklore during a young man's bora ceremony.
