The baobab is a massive decidious tree characteristic of semi-arid zones. In their massive trunks (which can reach a diametre of 13 metres), they can store up to 120,000 litres of water. Its leaves can be eaten as vegetable leafs (after preparation), while the Australian variety's fruit is said to taste like sherbet. Baobab wood is very soft and spongy, much like balsa wood.
