The bark blubber is a species of Oceanykan fungi that grows in the live tree bark of most species. It is characterised by its slimy texture, bright orange colour and the formation of "bubbles" filled with toxic gas. While resilient, animal teeth or beaks will break these bubbles and immediately gas a would-be attacker. However, if that is dealt with, the bark blubber can be dried and powdered to manufacture Solar Spice, one of the most sought-after spices in the international market. When properly prepared it has an extremely succulent yet spicy flavour, immediately reminiscent of the country in which it grows. Cultivation has proven successful abroad, but the bark blubber plantations found in Oceanyka are by far the best in flavour, quantity and price.
