The BMW 801 is a German V14 radial piston engine used primarily in military aircraft. It is air-cooled, has a direct fuel injection system, a technologically advanced supercharger and an automatic engine management unit. Different models could reach from around to 1500 to 2000 hp at sea level. While larger, heavier and more expensive than its contemporary the Daimler-Benz DB 601, the BMW 801 is more powerful and was primarily used for heavier military aircraft.
