The Nakajima Homare is a Japanese 18-cylinder air-cooled radial engine developed by the Nakajima Aircraft Company and used during the second half of World War II. It was known for its compact design and high power output, achieving up to 2,000 hp in later variants. It featured a two-speed supercharger and was primarily used in several key Japanese fighter and bomber aircraft, including the Nakajima Ki-84 "Hayate" and the Kawanishi N1K-J "Shiden" Despite its advanced design, the Homare engine faced reliability issues and production challenges, which impacted its overall effectiveness during the war. In the modern age it is favoured for its incredibly compact size, being almost identical in dimensions to the much less powerful Nakajima Sakae.
