Batallón Olimpia

Batallón Olimpia (Olympia Battalion) is a clandestine paramilitary unit staffed by hand-picked members of the Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional (SEDENA), the Dirección Federal de Seguridad (DFS) and multiple other federal agencies, ostensibly formed to ensure security during the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games. Its true purpose was to locate Soviet spies within the Mexican Student Movement of 1968, though once it was clear that they could not outsmart the KGB, their focus shifted towards destroying the student movement itself. Identified by their signature white gloves, members of the battalion were directly involved in the Tlatelolco Massacre, opening fire on unarmed demonstrators, coordinating military action against protest leaders and even firing on the Army to incite a response. To this day, Mexico denies the existence of the Batallón Olimpia.
