Charity Mission of Ilmater

Ilmater is the god of suffering, martyrdom, and perseverance, renowned for his compassion and endurance. It is he who offers succor and calming words to those who are in pain, victimized, or in great need. He is the willing sufferer, the one who takes the place of another to heft the other's burden, to take the other's pain. He is the god of the oppressed and the unjustly treated.

Waterdhavian worship of the Triad (Tyr, Torm and Ilmater) has long been subsumed by the Halls of Justice, Waterdeep's temple of Tyr. At a point in the city's history, however, the followers of the Crying God decided to create a place for those still suffering the effects of a plague that had swept the citizenry. Though most had recovered, the few still afflicted were shunned for fear of spreading the disease further.
The llmatari erected the Hospice of Saint Laupsenn, named for a long-martyred member of their order, and have continued in quiet service to this day. The hospice is funded by private charitable contributions and tithes from the Church of Tyr.
