The eastern port of Skull Island is called The Maw for its shape, not unlike a great mouth, into which boats must enter.

Crossing the entrance to The Maw, deep below the water’s surface, is a long, slacked chain with jagged metal barbs on it known as a set of hull augers. Using a winch in one of the nearby guardhouses, these augers can be raised and pulled taut, causing any ship that tries to cross into or out of the port to have the bottom of its hull ripped apart.
