Boreal Bimaria & the Brecland

Peninsula

Climate

The region of the Bimarian Peninsula forms the north-easternmost landmass of the continent, also known as Brecland. It is a cooler part of the continent, being situated so far north. Prevailing easterly winds bring rain into the peninsula quite steadily, which forms a convergence zone of colliding sea breezes that make for frequent thunderstorms.

Culture and Commerce

Although Breccia and Shiphaven are wealthy per se, the land itself is an impoverished pine barrens. The soil is too sandy or acidic for good farming, so it exports its pitch, charcoal, glassware, and small woodwork. Most of its food is either fish, pine nut-based, or imported.

Beneath the pitch-pines and oaks there lies a natural reservoir of sterile, pure water called Pinedraft. It is tinted from tannins and iron, and is prized by sea captains to take along on voyages. It remains potable longer than any other water.

There is an unusually high prevalence of criminal enterprise in the region. Gangs of highwaymen, self-taught alchemists, and hedge-witches are the norm, and one must budget for casual bribery or face great difficulties.

Flora and Fauna

The uplands are chiefly home to packs of wild Gorgops, who seem to subsist largely on humans. It does not pay to remain out of doors at night where they roam. Some of these animals are bred for use in war, but those that roam wild can never be tamed, and are easily large enough to hunt groups of armed men.
