The majority of Laroche's leather goods are made from a type of very large fish found in the Spinning Sea called the pirarucu. This fish is known to traverse Barcel Bay. Its skin has an idiosyncratic diamond pattern (shown below). Only his armors, gloves, saddles, and "hard" boots are of conventional leather. This is in part because Cliff is slightly crazy about fish, but also because the raw leather exported from Heston is generally seen as overpriced and generally not their top quality material. Most Heston leathers are exported as finished goods, at a premium.

On a typical night, the clientele at The Charging Crow can be described as friendly. On this occasion, there are over a dozen other people. Some of the patrons are listening to a singer, others are arguing with the bartender, and a couple others are discussing religious or political matters.

The Western Watch is a detachment of men-at-arms under Sir Edric, capably assisted by the elder Warburn. At any time there are generally 50-200 gentlemen serving part time to defend the castle and sortie into Barceliande Forest against bandits. At need, the gentry can swell these ranks to as much as 4,000 in times of war. This army is famed for its lone-wolf champions with longswords. They often make use of a special blade oil that inhibits the blood from clotting. They are famous for their harsh discipline of the low-level troops. Each cohort is led by its respective housecarl, while the mounted cavalry is held in reserve.

At the southern roots of Mt. Echoriath, east of Archet lies a secluded little valley where pools of shimmering hot water rise up from the cracks in the earth.

Surrounded by archtrees and submerged in the mineral water, one can almost believe that this was where mankind began, and was meant never to leave. 

Caffamont itself is a large, open archtree cabin erected around the best spring of all, and tended by the local Speed Cult. They use the spring for extended periods, in hopes of burning away their self-doubt through rigorous meditation. The water is bottled and sold far and wide for its believed medicinal properties.
