A sealed monastic college also known as "the ghamid nest". The members of this order subscribe to a life of study, isolation, and few personal possessions.
The college opens its outer gates but once every ten years. Within, there is an additional layer that never opens its gates, so that the outside world cannot contaminate their research.
Research trickles from the inner chamber by means unknown, which is then reviewed by an Interstitial Council that promulgates the work to the outer nest for translation and testing. Each decade, new members join the outer nest in a large festival of sharing and displaying what the decade's research has brought. Copies of the Sahari Decennial (that decade's research journal) are sent to the court of the Caliph, who then decides how best to use the information, and which parts can be shared.
Occasionally, it will become apparent to the Interstitial Council that something in the ghamid core has gone amiss. If this is verified, assassins are dispatched to infiltrate the core and erase the last century of research. On one occasion 600 years ago, the assassins failed, and the entire core had to be burned.
