Saroc’tal

Humanoid/fey.

Saroc’tal’s home world was Zaralon. A world in a realm far away, that existed in the material

realm, but was closer to the fae realm than any other material world. The Saroc’tal had

achieved immortality. They would never die from age, disease, or famine. But would die if

enough damage was done to their bodies and minds. There were around 5 million Saroc’tal

and they very rarely gave birth anymore. Maybe 100 children were born every 300 years.

The Saroc’tal were planar travelers and traveled through something they called a Null Gate.

During their travels they meet many races. They avoid interfering with other races, after they

tried to teach a young race about the different aspects of magic. This race ended up using

this knowledge to destroy themselves and their world.

After they had travelled for a while, they came across a powerful, almost immortal race. They

were masters of the magical aspect that is commonly known as Arcane.

This race befriended the Saroc’tal, a few millennia later the Saroc’tal were affected with the

curse of conquest. This is the curse that transformed the Saroc’tal to a new vicious and war-

like race, that had an uncontrolled need to dominate all other races.

Only a few thousand true Saroc’tal escaped this plague and scattered across the many

planes.

A thousand of them ended up in Barator, during a terrible war known as the age of the

Scourge. The eldest of the Saroc’tal decided to place the others in a kind of mystical stasis.

Using the magic that granted them immortality to protect and hide them. Until such a time as

this world would be safe. This was 3000 years ago. The Saroc’tal awoke 800 years ago.

When they awoke, they had lost their immortality and much of what they had once known. A

few objects from their home world were also located within their stasis rooms. There were

50 architect seeds, a damaged pool of memory, four Zaithilen eggs, four Zilian cubs and five

Hearth seeds

The stasis also caused some physical change.

The Saroc’tal could no longer give birth to a new generation, both male and female had

become sterile. After trying to find a cure for 200 years, the eldest created a rebirth or

returning pool.

Returning Pool: When an elder is close to their twilight years. They will feel the call of the

Returning. When this happens the elder returns to New Zaralon. They enter The Tower of

Mythus to the hall of wisdom, to allow their wisdom to be recorded for other generations,

then they enter the hall of knowledge to do the same. Those that have studied the arts, may it

be music, painting, or other forms of creative expression, share their last piece of work, in the

hall of arts.

After this is done, they go far beneath the Great tower of the Mythus. Here there is a large

pool of silver liquid. There are also half a dozen oval chambers.

The Elder then goes through a ritual that is known only to the Keepers of Life. After this

ritual has been completed, the Elder enters the pool and their body dissolves ( a painless

process). When this occurs one to four of the dozen oval chambers are filled with a pale

liquid, then solidified into a sphere. This sphere functions like a womb and within 12 months

a child is born from within these spheres. How many depends on the strength of the

Saroc’tal, what sex is random. The child is then cared for by the community. A Saroc’tal child

is not introduced to the other races before they are five years of age. Unfortunately, this ritual

is not always successful. Why? This is a question that has troubled the Saroc’tal l for

centuries.

Zaithilen( Zai-thil-ien): Are large avian creatures made of pure Arcane energy, they are a

pale blue and purple in color. The Zaithilien have four large feathery wings, the wings glow

and pulse with purple and blue light. They have long strong necks and powerful crystal-like

beaks. The avian creatures have long feathery tails that look much like their wings, but the

feathers are smaller, the Zaithilen have four eyes that glow with a soft pale light. Once born.

they live for a thousand years. The Zaithilien also mate and nest for life. Usually in the

highest structure they can see. The Zaithilen nests are a web of bluish-purple strands. The

nests are very large and can cover a few thousand square feet. These strands along with the

Zaithilen, generate raw arcane energy. The Saroc’tal learned from their pool of memories

how to harness this energy.

A Zathilien egg is a form of pure Arcane energy. That can either be used for destructive or

regenerative means. To use a Zathilien egg in such a manner is one of the few things that

can cause a Saroc’tal to act with rage.

Zilian: Looks like a mix between a timber wolf and a panther. They have silver colored fur

and their eyes are pure white, that softly glow. They are about the size of a horse. They are

very intelligent, the eldest of the Zilian leads the pack, until they die of age or through other

means.

Hearth seeds: From a Hearth seed a world stone is born. These seeds take around 200

years to sprout and what they sprout is not a plant, but a 20 kg stone that looks like a dark

green Emerald that pulses with a soft green light. These stones are used to filter pure

Arcane energy into a more stable form. Some Saroc’tal scholars believe they are remnants

of the very core of their home world.

There are four Greater factions of the Saroc’tal

The Circle of Growth: They study the natural world of Barator. They can be druids, rangers,

sorcerers or other that dedicate their time to understanding the natural world of Baraor

The Circle of Stars: Study the outer realms and what is commonly known as the divine arts.

The Circle of Gnosis: Study the arcane aspects of Barator.

The Circle of Lore: Study the History of Barator, and other realms.

The final one is not a Circle but something that was developed as a necessity in a violent

world. They are known as the Guardians of Zar.
