Wordy Updates

This note is for any wordy updates that don't fit well into Discord.

9/28 Game Changes

Summary and important changes:

  • Some xp-granting features have been nerfed. 
  • The idea of "specialized skills" is defined more generally.  Magic, musical instrument, academic field, and knowledge skills are now specialized. 
  • Tweaks to some features for more consistent wording. 
  • Nerfs to some features that give xp, and nerf to the Exemplar templates. 
  • Circumstances that grant xp on the Guides page were nerfed or removed. 
  • New characters from here on will start with 20xp. 
If any of today's changes would make you rethink some of your character build decisions, you may change them without needing to take the "Rethink" features. 

Look over your sheet

Most of the changes will result in "not found" type errors on your sheet, so they should be easy to find.  If you need any help, ask us about it in the thread created for this purpose! When you think you have it all squared away, please let us know. 

Starting XP

Those of you that already have a character page and character sheet but have not finished your character yet can keep your 25xp. Any new ones going forward start with 20. 

Changes to Features

  • Added ‘xp’ keyword to features that give xp. 
  • Advisor: removed “ If they follow your advice and then later tell you about it, gain 1xp.” Changed roll to avoid giving advice to Keep Calm. 
  • Art is Service: removed xp. 
  • Combat Reflexes: added bonus to Acting Quickly. 
  • Competitive: removed the once-per-scene bonus. 
  • Crappy Confidante: +1 to trustworthy now applies to all rolls.  
  • Do As I Say: bonus to do your bidding upgraded to +2.  
  • Doesn’t Sleep: Added flavor requirement. 
  • Extra Language (native): cost reduced from 5 to 4. 
  • Give to Get: removed xp. 
  • I Know You: removed xp. 
  • Ineptitude: Added “Ineptitude (small)”
  • Learning and Growing: removed xp.
  • Let me help: bonus increased to +3, removed xp. 
  • Luck: cost reduced to 4. 
  • Martyr: changed to +1 to all rolls to protect the person, rather than +2 to one roll. 
  • Pacifism: reworded entirely. 
  • Phobia: give Leverage on a fail. 
  • Secret: added “Give Leverage to anyone who finds out.” 
  • Stigma: added “When someone frames this in a positive light, give them Leverage.” 
  • Stronger Compulsion from True Name: name changed to Stronger Entice
  • Stronger Debuff from your True Name: named changed to Stronger Hinder
  • Stronger Buff from your True Name: name changed to Stronger Discourage
  • Skill Focus: new feature! 
  • Whatever it takes: upgraded to “gain 1xp whenever combat starts” (previously: when someone else starts the fight)
  • And harm it none, do what thou will: new feature. 
  • Extra Magic Ability: Removed.  Take Extra Specialty instead. 
  • Extra Musical Instrument: Removed. Take Extra Specialty instead. 

Changes to Templates

  • All changes to those above have been updated in the templates. 
  • Exemplar: removed leverage gained form having the highest in that attribute, and xp is now gained on one failed roll in that tree per scene. 
  • Witch: took out “Code of Honor” and added “And harm it none, do what though will” and “Pacifism.”
  • When the Nephilim template was first created, "Large" was a feature.  A while later, the "Large" template was created, and the feature was removed. The Nephlim template has been updated to include these "large" things. The cost of Nephilim is unchanged. 

Changes to Skills

  • Some skills are now labeled “Specialized.”  This is a concept that we already had for Magic and Musical Instruments, but now it’s more clearly defined.  This means that the skill does “one thing” by default (and you must define that one thing as a flavor requirement), and then you can take the feature, “Extra Speciality” to make it do more. 
  • First Aid has difficulty 1. 
  • Removed Drawing and Sewing.  Added a Specialized Skill called Arts & Crafts. 
  • Knowledge of Accents changed to Recognize Accent. 
  • Knowledge (Magic) changed to Understanding Magic and is now based off Reasoning. 
  • Skills representing Academic Fields are now specialized. 
  • Swimming: added a bit about holding your breath. 
  • Acrobatics is now based on Jumping and has Difficulty 3.
