Balthazar is an Ehnarra of Daerod, the Spirit. His initial responsibility was to be a reaper, which means to aid spirits in their journey to the afterlife. After growing through the ranks of reapers however, Balthazar became a trusted advisor to the Imrahli of Death herself.
