Expedition 29 - Lutheric's Account

After oversleeping when the party previously departed for the tower, I was determined not to over imbibe in future. On the other hand the terrible beating I had taken two weeks earlier probably hadn’t done me much good either and I was grateful to my colleagues for healing me.

I went with group shopping in Redwood and picked up a set of chain to replace the rather worn leathers that had not stood me good stead in my last outing. I also received a very welcome horse from the “co-op” and now need to figure out how to stay in the saddle …

I met Jauregi, a wizard’s apprentice who looked promising, regrettably on the way back to Four Shields she had a fit and fell off her horse, frothing up bits of orange and black fur that were not a good sign. A weretiger! Thinking as quickly as I was able to, I cast a sleep spell on her and the party took her to the Keep, for safety and imprisonment until treatment might be at hand.

After a brief overnight at Four Shields, we departed for the Tower of the Constructor. The guys had already been there once and were on their second foray, so, luckily they knew the way. My mail chafed, as I was not used to the weight or the odd places it rested, still, better alive and chafing than comfortably dead…

Part 2: When we entered the tower, we ascended to the first floor. We passed around a library and kicked down the door to a room we suspected to be occupied by undead denizens. Two were banished by our Cleric and bottles of holy water were lobbed in, but it still required hand to hand to finish off the other six.

We continued to explore and by sheer luck found a room containing crates with equipment that had previously been looted from our party. We even found that annoying, moaning sword that wants a Lawful owner… I have considered conversion, but I am not sure I want to put up with the whining… In the meantime, I have obtained a hand crossbow and quarrels – not sure I’ll use it as I like my longbow, even if I am still far from being a good shot. I have also been gifted a Rhino Shield +1 – I really should have equipped it, but it’s already hard enough being an Elf ranger in chainmail. I need to ponder my future as I am still a bit weedy.

Shortly thereafter we entered a large temple room that looked like something a necromancer like Thulsa Goon (sic) might use. It was certainly a foreboding place with its sacrificial stone. We flowed into the room and only too late spied a 20 foot python, that was sizing us up for a snack. After a failed attempt at negotiation … what’s to negotiate with a brain the size of a peanut… and who needs brains when you’re 20 feet of pure muscle…, we stumbled over each other to fight the “wurm”. It took time and Rarden managed to get in a lucky shot that decapitated our opponent, but not before it had crushed Lazolas to a pulp – farewell fair Elf, we weill see thee on the other side (or words to that effect). Sadly for us, another three pythons issued forth from the back of the temple and it was time to leg it , which we did with minor injuries.

Time to rest up a bit and take stock. Until our next foray!
