We began the day in Four Shields Fort, as usual. Having recently destroyed the evil in the caves in the forest, we had a few days to revel in our riches. It was nice to have a day or two with no pressing quests to follow.
So we did what any budding adventurer's guild would do, and we planned what our next quarry would be. Our first idea was to go to Redwood and discuss our victory with the Baron. Whilst we were there we floated (ha) the idea of having a ship made to explore the mythical islands in the ocean. The Baron thought this was a fabulous idea, implying he would fund the expedition, as long as he had a return of 50% of all loot. We mulled this over, and told him we'd return with the decision of all of the members of Four Shields Fort.
So, we set our sights on a more short term goal. Looking at the Baron's map, we located a temple in the mountains north of Redwood Keep, which we helped take so long ago. We bought some canoes to help with the journey, and set off the next day. We made it to the foothills south of the mountain, maybe half a day's walk from the temple, before we decided to rest. During the night, we saw 3 dragons fly southwest overhead.
After resting, the safest thing to do seemed to be searching the area in order to make sure that the route to the temple was safe. We spent the entire day searching, and finally found something in the evening in the form of a roving band of ratfolk. Thankfully, I spoke their language, and with a clever use of Sleep and Ventriloquism we managed to scare them off and take a prisoner.
We decided to have a pretty soft touch with the interrogations, and found that we could use the ratfolk to our own ends. The prisoner we waked told us about the King of the Mountain in the mountains to the north - we assume that this King dwells in the temple. We bade him farewell, and got him to come back the next morning with the second-in-command of his clan.
The next morning came, and we had a lengthy discussion with the ratfolk delegation. They are terrified of this King of the Mountain, and would be happy if we rid them of him. They don't want to be seen going against him, however, and as such we will have to go it alone. We agreed that if we wore black neckerchiefs in their land, they would not attack us. Additionally, they showed us the way to a ruined dungeon of sorts - they say it is dangerous, but that it is likely to be filled with treasure. Clearing this place out may earn us more good will with the ratfolk, and more gold for us.
We then decided to head home. Whilst we didn't gain much practical experience, nor did we gain much gold, we now have a clearer idea of where to go next.
