Expedition 42 - Maurice's Account

September 22, 2022

The scripture of Maurice the Pure

My liege, the virginal and honourable Lady Andrella, hath commanded me to assist a swarthy group of ne'er do wells who endeavour to venture to a lair of monsters to the north.

The motley crew be promising, and thine plans acceptable, so we travelled to a vantage point overlooking a rabble of buildings and decided to keep watch to see the comings and going of the denizens of the estate.

As we observed, a number of lions descended to make us their next meal, the mage cast a spell that sent most of them to slumber, but the remaining one attacked us.

The warrior and the dwarves engaged the feline menace, who had suffered a few arrows on its way towards us, as the warrior landed the fatal blow, the creature lashed at thy neck causing severe pain, I staggered but survived and one of the dwarfs used a magical shield to recover thine injuries.

The next day, in contrary to my silent advice of a frontal assault, they decided to climb a wall and seek a back way into the complex, namely via a peaceful garden with one doorway.

A secret passage was discovered, but the miscreants proceeded to open the door to reveal an abandoned library, and then a disused dining room. A scratching from the room beyond dissuaded them from charging in, much to my dismay, and they decided to leave this and retreat.

The mage managed to steal a scroll but not much was recovered from the expedition. I reported the activities to thy liege, the Lady Andrella, who instructed me to remain as they travelled to their fort.

My axe lies bloodless, much to my dismay.
