Expedition 49b - Mandras' Account

The party went down the rope under the tripod. It was 35 feet to the floor of the tomb, which started as a frescoed room containing 2 skeletons. The party proceeded east and found a short corridor branching north ending in a dusty wooden door. Mandras and Konrad, who were in the lead opened it and while Konrad wisely held back, Mandras brazenly took a step in. A section of floor shifted under his feet and a wall came down from the ceiling, trapping him inside a small room, with another door in front of him. The latter promptly opened and 7 skeletons came pouring in. Lacking other options he charged them, while they swarmed him on all sides. He could faintly hear the party behind seeking access and other entries. He hewed mightily killing four skeletons for a few cuts. The party managed to lift the slab by a few feet and Koko threw himself in killing 2 skeletons while Mandras killed the last one.

Searching beyond the room the skeletons occupied the party found a dead end, with two bodies therein. Mandras recovered an odd fan and some Celtic style coins from the remains. The fan to be examined at a quieter time.

The party backtracked with Mandras and Konrad still in the lead. A route was taken to the south on a hunch of Mandras’. The adventurers flowed through a series of passages and rooms, one containing a headless statue of a knight. At one point Mandras found a bricked-up archway and took out his crowbar in hopes of finding a new room, but to no avail, it was simply too thick. A few yards further we opened another door which gave onto a further corridor, something seemed odd and a few prods of the butt end of a spear produced a pit, that dropped too far to be comfortable. While debating whether to test the ledges around the pit, Marko hear jolly laughter well behind the party, hardly the denizens of the tomb...

Mandras and Konrad doubled back through the party and headed for the sound. As they reached the original entry room, they encountered the back of a group of adventurers. They were engaged verbally and identified as Outriders of Ulek, led by one Vrak Bloodshield. A friendly exchange ensued and Vrak mentioned a room they had avoided due to odd tapping sounds.

The party went back into the tomb in the direction described and passed through a few new rooms until they encountered a trapezoid room with a second door to the north, which had a Persian style frieze of a funeral cortege. Hearing nothing behind it, Mandras eagerly opened the door to find yet another corridor, ending in a dead end, with 10 hexagonal alcoves which he carefully avoided. Instead, the group went east to a small offshoot corridor with another door. This opened onto an acrid smelling chamber with a cadaver on the ground and a further door to the NE from which faint tapping could be heard. Konrad threw some small stones at the body to see if there would be a reaction but none was forthcoming. Here endeth this part of the chronicle.
