Mandras blearily came to. Digging into his pockets he was surprised to find that the strange stone he gave the enchantress was back in her pocket. Less surprising was that her robin was still flitting near his head – he’d have to contact her soon.
Trudging back to Ximes, Mandras went trawling for rumours
in various dens of iniquity. He got lucky when the name of a merchant Hubert Poulain cropped up as having disappeared for trying to double cross the Duke. Back in the inn, he hired Beltzane, a crossbow armed retainer for ½ a share – but was disappointed to realise the chap was very weedy (1HP).
Carrying on his investigations, he broke into Poulain’s house that night and found papers pertaining to the overcharging of glitzy but poor-quality weapons; he also found a box containing 37 GP.
The next day, the party returned to the Barrowmaze area and Mandras snuck into the last barrow they had explored. Checking the 2nd alcove, Mandras set off the Stone Golem trap, as expected and 2 of the creatures appeared from the floor headed for him. The party slew them, but not before Mandras took heavy wounds, to the edge of death.
Inspecting the urns, Mandras found Electrum coins withing some floral vases, he packed all into his backpack. He also found a ring (B29.2) and a blackened mace (also B29.2).
Well satisfied with their outing, the party returned to Ximes.
