Side Expedition 1Q

Adventurers

With a new corridor to explore, the party braved the gatehouse once more. It led to a few dwarven skeletons stuck fast to the wall as some form of punishment and disgrace, and a fancy dwarven statue. Once they’d carved and burned their way through some large centipedes and a gelatinous mass blocking their way, they pilfered the bodies and, after failing to find any hidden exits, turned their attention toward the chamber with the dwarven ghost.

After nearly two months the hairy one they’d locked inside was long dead, and the one-armed ghost cried out similar orders to get out as he had done before. Once they’d determined the phantom wouldn’t actually do anything to them, they pressed forward into the next room to find a semi-circle of ancient hairy one bodies surrounding a one-armed dwarf skeleton. To the side lay the severed arm clutching a mace.

Kelro respectfully placed the arm bones next to the body and, when that didn’t do anything, picked up the mace. A great wail rang out from the ghost, and the skeleton rose to its feet and attacked. Anticipating something of the sort might happen, the adventurers were ready and they surrounded the long-deceased warrior. Fortunately they had enough enchanted weapons to finish the job quickly, for the mundane ones just glanced off it, brought the creature down before it could penetrate their defences. As they struck the (re-)killing blow, the ghost let out a sigh and vanished.

Pocketing the mace, the party decided to send Carbel off with the magic leather armour to see what lay beyond the giant toads they had encountered a few weeks ago. The halfling went into ethereal mode and darted between the confused amphibians to find a room of large tadpoles and a slightly elevated part of the room in the corner, noticeable as it rose slightly above the water level.

He fed this back to the party and they lured the toads into the great columned chamber. Splashing them with fiery oil flasks amongst all the mushrooms brought up a surprisingly appetising aroma, and then the adventurers waded into the second flooded area and, after poking around the walls, found a secret door leading to a hidden display room.

There before them stood a set of fine dwarven chain armour and a grand battle axe. They bagged them and a very fancy looking candelabra which radiated a magical aura, and made their way back to Fourtowers Village, not much richer financially but keen to work out what all these fancy new doodads they had found could do.

They were met by the village blacksmith - he’d played host for the last month now, and wanted his workshop free of griffon feathers…
