The Bayou begins on the far side of Skull Riverabuts the great swamp called The Deep Mangrove and is wholly devoted to maritime activities like fishing, shipbuilding and maintenance.

Built on the edge of the Deep Mangrove, where the Skull River empties into the bay, The Bayou is a ramshackle affair of wooden buildings built on stilts above the water. Most of the populace relies on small swamp boats (called pirogues)  to travel, and it is common for the first floor of these houses to consist solely of a small dock for such.

The main industry of this small town is ship repair and maintenance, as the placid Skull River augmented by the extensive system of floating docks allows dry dock style operations on even large ships. The shipwrights here are experts on the tricky “Parliamentary Heel”, a process for careening larger ships.
