Galleas

Galleasses are the most modern of the oar powered military ships of the states of the The Inner Archipelago. They evolved from earlier Galley's and were intended to combine galley speed with the sea-worthiness and artillery of a galleon. 

Galleasses are higher, larger and slower than regular ("light") Galley's. They had up to 32 oars, each worked by up to five men. They usually have three masts, a forecastle and an aftcastle that carried multiple cannons and a dedicated broadside gun deck. Much effort is made to make these galleasses as fast as possible to compete with regular galleys. The gun deck usually runs over the rowers' heads, but there are also examples showing the opposite arrangement. Galleasses usually carry more sails than true galleys and are far deadlier,^] a galley caught broadside lay all but helpless, since coming broadside to a galleass, exposes an attacker to her gunfire. The Galleasses are a relatively new design, relatively few galleasses have been as of yet been built.
