Year of Flames

Disaster
251-1-1

The year 251 of the Fifth Era is remembered in history as the Year of Flames.

Though clear accounts of the events are hard to find, historians agree that it was in this year that infernal portals opened up all over the realm of Catarina. These gateways brought forth hordes of monsters, demons, and other vile creatures from a realm beyond comprehension.

As the nations of Ameüs scrambled to defend their homelands, something else emerged: Horned humanoids that called themselves TieflingTheir knowledge about fighting demons proved invaluable in driving back the invasion.

The war, however, came at a grave cost. The foul demonic energy warped the very earth, and the spells cast by the Heaton Academia Arcana and Nodonia seared the sky.

It was through extremely hard-fought battles that the tide turned, and legends speak of

A warrior of flame; borne from crystal vault
Fought with great fury; brought demons to halt
A wielder of magic, of violet ember
May we honor his deeds, and always remember

Though the nations of Iralas still had a lot of suspicions about the Tieflings, a solution had to be found. And so it was at the end of the Year of Flames that the Tieflings were given the southern peninsula of the Bloodlands. This was seen by some as a meager reward for the Tieflings' role in the defense of Iralas, as the province was one of the main battlegrounds of the invasion.

The Tieflings made the scorched land their own, naming it Ashar, and so the Year of Flames came to an end.
