Those that are recognized as heroes are publicly acknowledged by some persons, organizations, or general public for their deeds. Many heroes could also be seen as villainous in some stories depending on the group that backs the hero in question. For example an Elven hero maybe seen as a villain in the eyes of the human town that they lay siege to

village or town heroes. Known more by the peasants and common folk of
an area, May be known by the local noble as well and called upon to
solve issues that dont require a full squadron of knights. A burgeoning
hero is always seen as a good spark for change
Heroes that would make a name in major cities or hubs that bring in wealth and fame. A city hero maybe well known to nobles across a nation, possibly known even by royalty. These heroes can greatly improve the livelihood of a town or city that they discern is their home base by making it known.

Heroes of a nation are known and worshiped by noble and commoner alike. News of their escapades make great bard tales that give them a reputation in almost any space. Heroes of this level can be equated to mid ranked nobles and as such can be bequeathed special privileges and social powers by royalty. Example of such powers include the ability to investigate and hold other nobles accountable or access to specialty facilities such as the Mesostrum Academy
