Kaevys has tenure within the Arcane University at Ivora.  He is a Jesnite Mage (Common Magic) with a sizable crystal and a lot of practice under his belt, and has even derived a few spells himself.  He's a bit of a nutty, abstract thinker who seems to lack streetsmarts and savoire faire, but since he knows he's usually the smartest person in the room, doesn't really give a crap about impressing anyone.  He's well-spoken more from intelligence and years of practice rather than from any innate talent with words, and can carry a conversation when it suits him, he just gets bored with most people.

Magic

Here are some spells that Kaevys can do with his Jesnite.  To cast them, he needs an hour of uninterrupted quiet time, smooth ground so that he can draw complex geometric symbols with chalk, and some tools for precision such as rulers and protractors and compasses. 

  • Predict the weather
  • Send.  A small piece of paper appears to the recipient.  Must have something associated with the target. 
  • Scry.  A knitting needle hanging on a string is dangled around on a map, and then it is drawn to the location of the object in question. Must have something associated with the target. 
  • Dream share.  He appears to a person in a dream, but their recollection of it may be fuzzy if they don't have the strength of mind to hold onto it. Must have something associated with the target. 
  • Compass.  A floating object in a shallow dish of water floats to the edge closest to the person or object in question. Doesn't tell you anything about distance, just direction.  Must have something associated with the target. 
  • Mend. Fixes up an object to newer condition.  Doesn't work on magic items or crystals. 
  • Acquire language.  Must have a text written in that language. 
  • Everburn.  Makes a light source stay on all night without fuel. 
  • Absorb text. Read a book real real fast. 
  • Warn. Caster is aware if someone touches an object
  • Stuff like that.
