Republic of Dolar
Population and Inhabitants
Geography and Climate
Warm and dry.
Culture
- Materialistically-driven
- Tend to view all interactions as transactional in some way
- Predominant religion is Aenetrism, which means they believe they have to fulfill the "Sacrifice" endeavor by giving to those in need. Most Dolari families make a big to-do about such donations so that everyone knows they are good people. For upper-class folks, Sacrifice is just part of their image. For lower-class folks, Sacrifice is a way of keeping them down. (There isn't really a middle class)
- Family structure is very important to them. The family is governed by the eldest male of the family and follows a line of succession.
- Men tend to live in their parents' homes forever, where women live with their husbands once they're married.
- Most marriages are arranged. The groom and/or his father (patriarch or not) pays a bride-dowry to the patriarch of the bride's family.
- Some families keep Aegi as slaves, mostly Macboiwi warriors and Macese laborers.
- The nature of their judicial system results in a lot of punitive or debt-based indentures when the perpetrator cannot pay the fines. One can atone for a crime by indenturing one of their relatives to the offended party.
- One may also choose to sign an indenture in exchange for being taught a trade; apprentices without a lot of money are almost always indentured.
- Diet includes a lot of rice, beef, lamb, spicy peppers, wheat, and fruit. Also COFFEE.
- Women are allowed to be scholars or take up other non-laborious positions but can't own land, or hold positions of power. This is typically only possible for higher-class ladies who have support from the lower women of their family. Women get a vote but it's controlled by their patriarch.

Government and Politics
Although Dolar is technically a republic, it's impossible to get elected as a representative without being wealthy and powerful, so it's more of a plutocracy. There is a lot of bartering and corruption and shady deals amongst the representatives to get what they want.

Magic
The republic officially is against mages but doesn’t actively persecute and probably most merchant princes has some secretly employed. Magic is very rare here.
