As swords meet and spells fly, Demogorgon's presence below the battlefield is a constant source of terror. The Prince of Demons lets out an echoing roar from one head to another; he takes no notice of you, lost in his own rage. Despite the deadly intrusion, the battle rages on, your opponents unrelenting in their dangerous dance. Ilvara's mad with obsession, though if it's the demons' doing or her own mind, no one can say.
Jorlan sees an opportunity and surges forward. Shoor skids in
front of him and their swords clash, but he has no time for games. He
kicks at Shoor's legs and knocks him prone, not sparing another glance.
"How dare you!" Ilvara screeches. "Know your place!"
Jorlan presses on, side-stepping her attacks. He meets his former mistress head-on, plunging his blade clean through her torso.
"You hold no power over me anymore," he says as Ilvara crumples to the ground. He watches the life leave her eyes.
Asha's eyes frantically dart between her fallen superior and former ally. She raises her hands and a bright light gathers. By the time Jorlan notices the threat, it's too late to dodge. A stunning beam shoots out and suddenly Skjorn is in front of him, concentrating his magic into his hands. He attempts a counter-attack, and his own magic collides with Asha's in a burst of white-hot glittering light. Skjorn takes the explosion point-blank and screams. His hands - something is wrong, they burn and they're trembling and his magic feels--
The earth shifts above Dibrael and Za'zimlas, cracks rippling across the stone ceiling. Dibrael is too engrossed in the chaos, but Za'zimlas sees the signs. The dragonmark on his hand glows as he summons a powerful gust of wind. Seconds before tragedy strikes, Dibrael is propelled a few feet forward, a little more out of harm's way...
It's not enough to save him. The ceiling shatters, boulders smashing on the ground and shrapnel flying through the air. Dibrael is knocked down as something pierces his leg and his mind clouds with agony. He vaguely registers Za'zimlas standing under the falling debris and watches with horror as he is crushed under the rubble. The right side of his body looks completely mangled.
The barrage of rocks nearly strikes Yuk Yuk but he's pushed away at the last second. Where the goblin once stood, his brother now lies under his own tombstone. Yuk Yuk can't breathe as he crawls closer, cradling Spiderbait in his arms. But the ceiling is still shaking, and before his sacrifice ends up in vain, Jimjar pulls Yuk Yuk away. His wails echo through the entire cavern.
Allies and enemies alike are dropping like flies. Mylz watches the horror unfold, helpless to her friends' pain. She's supposed to be a hero; they're all going to die if she doesn't move. Mylz turns to their enemies, letting her hair down. It bleeds into full gold and her eyes glow like suns.
β'Fraid ah cain't quite let y'all out,β she says as she steps forward. It sends a shockwave through the carnage. Stalactites falls behind the remaining slavers, trapping them in.
βAn' ah cain't have y'all chasing us down, neither.β Another step, the ground tremors under the might of the aasimar's full power. The walls begin to crumble. "So ah'm gon' need y'all tah cooperate wit' me."
Ezra's eyes turn to Demogorgon; if Mylz causes a cave-in, he has to be on the other side. Suddenly, the buzzing of wings flood his ears and he feels insects under his skin. He can barely think through the splitting headache. Ezra's magic electrifies his veins as something unlocks inside of him. He focuses again on the monster, willing him away from them. The Prince of Demons stops in his tracks, his roar abruptly silenced as Telekinesis takes hold. He shouldn't be able to do this, shouldn't have access to this spell, yet... For a terrifying moment their eyes meet, before Demogorgon is blown backwards by an invisible force. Ezra feels his mind tear itself apart before it stitches back together, and Sarith catches him as he collapses.
The last of the party is dragged to a nearby tunnel just in time. Mylz stomps on the ground and the sky falls. The cavern collapses behind them, blocking the slavers in with the beast. But she's too close, and her light flickers out as stray rocks tumble onto her. Bleary eyes spot a survivor on their side of the wall, and she slaps her manacles on his wrists. Before she passes out, she demands that Jorlan pull Shoor out of the rubble. Ront leads the group away while Derendil guards the rear, pistol still cocked in shaking hands. Together, everyone limps the rest of the way to Mithral Hall.
