Regarded by many to be a sister people to the Merro Elves, the Fey are a people deeply connected to the cycles of the natural world as well as the laws and structures that make it flow. Broadly speaking the Fey are divided into two distinct groups, the of Light and Dark fey, which are then further subdivided into four seasonal Courts. It's tempting by outsiders to consider these groups along the axis of morality, with many making the assumption that those Fey of the Dark must be "evil" and those of the Light "good" but the Fey themselves have little patience for such useless distinctions, though that isn't to say there does not exist a fierce rivalry between the Seasonal Courts who often engage in no end of petty squabbles over the rulership of their realm.
Outside of their own people, much of the social structure and customs of the Fey are not particularly well understood and often seem both arbitrary and non-sensical to those who visit their lands, a fact which can be endlessly frustrating as the Fey place great emphasis on respecting these customs, and are quick to anger at those who do not, while frequently declining to explain them in any fashion. Despite this, by and large the Fey have long been a mostly benevolent influence upon the Realms and the world which came before, participating in the Godswar in only the most chaotic and arbitrary of fashions and largely devoting their time and energies to squabbling harmlessly among themselves and stewarding the cycles of the natural world.
The appearance of the Fey is as widely variable as the powers that influence them and often changes on the whims of the individual as most possess at least a small ability to manipulate their physical forms to their wishes. The one exception to this involves those Fey who have sworn fealty to one of the Courts, which becomes a bond of loyalty which will always be reflected in their form in some fashion, however minor, as a constant reminder to themselves and other where their loyalties should lie.
