Tengu normally resemble more varied bird types than the crow or raven looking Kenku, with blues, yellows, reds, browns, and whites being common feather coloration. In terms of appearance, there is a large amount of variance from individual to individual. They are usually slim, with partially hunched bodies. There are usually two short fangs next to their beak.

Tengu Concept

Tengu prefer raw meat for their diet, and although avian, they lost their ability to fly in the distant past. Tengu usually live in hillside and mountain top villages or aeries, and hunt in the surrounding forests and plains.

The Tengu make their home in the Dominion of Winds, in the mountain ranges south and east of the Clarity Lakes. They are extremely wary of the races of Alyndrica, and do not allow outsiders into their settlements.

A few tengu have set up trading posts outside their walls, in order to trade with and observe the other races. They currently remain neutral in all conflicts.

Tengu are extremely insular, with each of the five main clans greatly differing in their outlook towards other cultures, from semi-arrogant acceptance to open hostility. They hold the ability to speak in Auran in great esteem, and have been known to accept those that can speak it when otherwise they would not. It is known that the tengu houses have distinct cultures within the tengu whole; however, it is not known which houses correspond to which clans or tribes. Although the tengu houses have different cultures, they all fervently uphold three basic virtues: honor, family, and history.
