Legend speak only vaguely of Shothragot, an ancient evil from the beginning times, before recorded history.

It is said that it...ate gods.

That it took the Rain of Colorless Fire to destroy it.

It is a mass of formless insanity and ancient elemental power.  It strikes with the power of the elements, acid, cold, fire, lightning, thunder, all are its weapons.  It strikes with the maddening cacophony of its thousands of incarnations.  And it attended by writhing tentacles of the Black Cysts of the Unnamed God.

Its only goal is the unlocking of the gate.  It can see the future, it knows its allies, and it knows its foes.  Worship increases its power, but it seeks the relics and tools used by the gods to imprison its master (He Who Shall Not Be Named) to weaken the chains, and return itself unto apotheosis.
