Backstory
Born 32 BBY, Irata was a talented youngling prodigy at the age of twelve when she was selected by Jedi Knight Mn'Kartr Syndrm to be his padawan during the third year of the Clone War. Syndrm was an infamous Zabraki knight within the Order, a person some might call a free spirit, who had selected the incredibly studious padawan Manat in hope of teaching her to be more loose and fancy free in her approach to the force. Instead, Irata found she did not care for Syndrm’s teaching style of taking the young padawan on what felt like near weekly unauthorized missions where the two would almost die but ultimately come out ahead because of Knight Syndrm’s, often rule breaking, “improvisations”. Ironically, Irata much preferred the clone trooper escorts, finding their professional training (and thought she was unaware, conditioning) far more admirable. This chapter of her life would come to the day of Order 66, when the Clone Troopers with no warning attacked the two Jedi. Syndrm was able to kill the clone troopers and take them both into hiding, but Irata was still traumatized by the clone troopers' betrayal. For the next few years Syndrm and Irata lived on the run, when finally Syndrm’s reckless behavior finally brought enough legal attention to their activities that Darth Vader himself arrived to end Syndrm’s antics and impress Irata into Inquisitorius. Ultimately, Irata would never become a full Inquisitor. First, her “training” was mostly being abused and used as a glorified slave by whichever brother or sister was handling her. Second, the Inquisitorius’s internal culture of being Sith-light meant that whoever Irata’s mentor was at a given moment would change regularly via some internal betrayal ending in the former mentor’s death (often because they were Irata’s mentor; Irata being very good at performing her mentor’s administrative duties made her a very attractive “apprentice” in an organization full people who found existing in a bureaucracy to be suffocating). Then, when Irata finally reached the point where she merely needed to wait for Darth Vader to bestow her with a title, Lord Vader died. On the same day the Emperor did. Both alongside the annihilation of the most elite troops and crews within the Imperial military.
While the Inquisitorius was mostly intact at that moment and could have mobilized its power to stop the shattering of the Empire, the immediate aftermath was in fact the Inquisitorius basically imploding as an organization. With most of the sisters and brothers killing each other in a bid to become the next Grand Inquisitor (and perhaps Emperor). The few survivors ultimately fled to the far corners of the galaxy to do whatever they willed to do with their new freedom and soon all that remained was Irata Manat, an Inquisitor who hadn’t even earned a title.
Lacking any real ambitions or any orders to follow, Irata I ironically fell back on her now faintly remembered lessons as a youngling and began wandering around what was left of the Empire and helping people. After only a few years of doing this, Irata had gained a reputation in Imperial space as a protector of remaining loyal citizens of the Empire; an Imperial knight some would call her. It was under this reputation that she was approached by Mas Amedda, now the Voice of the Imperial Throne, with an order to form a new military order to aid in the protection of the Empire; the Imperial Knights.
Irata Manat now serves as the Knight Commander of the Empire’s Imperial Knights, an organization that she founded and shaped. As running an organization of its size takes quite a bit of work, most of her time is spent performing administrative work. That being said, she always makes sure to free up a significant amount of time in her schedule to spend it with new recruits, proudly being able to say she has involvement in the training of every Imperial Knight that serves in the Empire. Lasty, as the Knight Commander and a member of the Imperial Council, she does have to go out and do politics, but always travels back to Castle Serenno as soon as possible.
Appearance
Irata Manat is a 5 foot, 7 inch female Human of 53 years of age at the beginning of the campaign. She is never seen without her Imperial Knight uniform outside her personal apartment and maintains a professional/utilitarian look; only wearing accessories and makeup when performing her political duties and only to a minimal extent even then. Although they have mostly healed thanks to treatments that Mas Amedda encouraged her to undergo, Irata still has faint scars across her body from her Inquisitorius “training”, many of which are on her face and can be seen with enough lighting and without makeup.
Personality
Irata Maran is two things; professional and unamused. She doesn’t care for her time being wasted, she enjoys things brief and to the point, and more than anything, she cares about the rules. As a Knight Commander, she has two guiding principles: rules are what separate us from the animals, a weak link makes a weak chain. After living the life she has, Irata has concluded that the attitudes “rules are meant to be broken” and “better a king in hell then a slave in heaven” are the road to weakness and organizational suicide (and personal trauma and misery, not that Irata has the self-awareness to realize such). As such, Irata prioritizes loyalty and adherence to the rules as the highest virtues, having made those the highest principles in the military order she herself shaped and guides; the Imperial Knights.
