Shards

Elemental

Shards

Shards are physical manifestations of ley energy in the world. They began to exist in the world following the sundering, assumedly created by the destruction it caused. Lesser shards tend to be more mindless and follow the nature of their leyline almost entirely, unless commanded/lead by greater shards. Greater Shards have a bit more sentience, able to make decisions and in some rare cases, communicate. Not all shards are immediately hostile, mostly dependent on their leyline. Shards of Life for example tend to show up and give their essence to heal others, while Shards of Chaos prefer to just cause as much chaos and panic as possible, usually resulting in aggression.

Types of Shards

Day (orange)

Shards of Day have abilities that buff and assist others and themselves. They tend to be somewhat overly friendly, with lesser shards acting like found puppies and Greater Shards being protective and passionate. Greater Day shards are typically able to speak on a very basic level and will say things like "you're doing great!" "keep going!" while attempting to buff their compatriots.

Night (black)

Shards of Night are passive until disturbed. They tend to be peaceful unless something interrupts their rest, in which case they single handedly focus on whoever or whatever interrupted their peace until it is put down. Greater Shards of Night are both easier to disturb and more retributive when bothered.

Life (red)

Shards of Life are unlikely to fight unless extremely provoked. If they come across a group of creatures, they will throw themselves at them, actively draining their essence to heal or resurrect the dead. This can sometimes have... unfortunate consequences, depending on which side of a fight you may be on. Greater Shards mostly differ in their power level, able to heal multiple targets. Life Shards are some of the rarest to encounter, given their propensity to self sacrifice as soon as they find a target.

Death (boney- white with red/yellow tones)

Shards of Death are some of the scariest ones to encounter. They will engage and fight any targets they see, not letting up until all have been put into the ground. It is generally understood to avoid shards of death if at all possible, unless you greatly outnumber them or have some other wild tactical advantage.

Order (yellow)

Shards of Order are peculiar creatures. The way the ley has manifested in them has produced some bizarre and, oddly enough given their nature, unpredictable results. Shards of Order analyze situations by what they believe to be wrong or misplaced. They attempt to bring everything into line with a vision they have, the source of which generally comes from a Greater Shard of Order. This vision can vary wildly and what they see as "correct" may not be what is good for the health of others or even themselves.

Chaos (purple)

Shards of Chaos act exactly how you might expect, random and unpredictable. This may result in fighting or sometimes just causing important things to go missing -- whatever seems to counteract the goals of who they are interacting with is what they are after. Lesser Shards are generally more obvious and less sneaky in their plots while greater shards are known to put together elaborate schemes just to cause mayhem, sometimes bringing in other entities through ley influence.

Nature (green)

Shards of Nature reflect the environment they are in. They tend to act like wild animals, more instinctual than anything else. Their main uniting feature is a desire to protect the natural world and all within it. If you respect nature and their ways, they won't bother you. Greater Shards are generally more powerful and some are able to speak, all be it at a very slow and drawn out pace.

Void (blue)

Shards of Void act counter to Shards of Nature primarily. They seek to remove the natural and replace it with nothingness. They seem like they would leave random passerbys alone, but generally those people would fall into their goal to remove or corrupt the natural, resulting in aggression. Greater Void Shards are an enigma and rarely seen, but have been responsible for some of the most destructive events known.
