Dr. Guel a Unknown researcher for the Guild, found what he called a "milestone" in the forest just outside of First Landing. This milestone had strange markings on it, but by all appearances was used to mark an ancient road.
He hired the group of adventurers to seek out this milestone and hopefully find more of them. The group set out on foot, and quickly found the first, determining that it was oriented north and south. However, the party did not know what the markings meant. The party traveled north and found another one, subtly different from the first, but it was still unclear what the markings meant.
Eventually they realized that the markings were a form of binary encoding, that from 248 milestones count down all the way to zero milestones, with no markings inside.
The party were attacked by birds that begged them for food. Winning the fight handily and retrieving horses, the party began a long trip into the mountains. After encountering some vicious wolves, fighting a ghostly Unknown, and passing 48 milestones, the party found a difficult gorge to cross between this hex and the next.
They had to leave their mounts and cross, but just a few miles past the gorge, they spotted a mighty bridge in the rock face. They returned to grab the mounts when a massive crab crawled out of the gorge and threatened the mounts. 3 party members were rendered unconcious and brought up again before the beast was put down. Daggoth almost died, Sohma did a falling sword slash. Due to the increasing danger of monsters, the party decided to regroup and resupply.
